The shopping scene at MIA is exceptionally better than what you would expect from the airport. It is probably because it brings a touch of Miami, rather than being generic. Concourse E has the highest number of retail shops with a mix of fashion and accessories stores, Miami-specific souvenirs, Cuban coffee tins, and duty-free shops.
Every concourse has your last-minute necessities, including tech & travel accessory shops, sunglasses counters, and bookstores. The Cuban food is one of MIA's best attributes; it has been ranked as one of the best airports in the U.S. for food and drink. Café Versailles, as you can see here, has five cafes throughout the Concourses (D, E and F), and my go to place for a cafecito and a pastelito before heading to the airport. Most everything's served in a sit-down line (Concourse D) of Cuban dishes, with lechón asado, palomilla steak and black bean soup just to name a few, all under 10 dollars.
Bacardi Mojito Bar in Concourse D is a proper bar, not a kiosk—and Corona Beach House in Concourse J does the same in the south side of the airport. Another Cuban restaurant to check out, close to Concourses D and E, is ‘Estefan Kitchen Express'.
Viewed from a distance of Cubans, you will find the usual array of national fast-food chains, a few sit-down American and seafood restaurants and coffee and smoothie stands abounding in every concourse, especially Concourse E.

An hour or more to spare: Once in the community, an hour or more must be dedicated to a true sit down meal at La Carreta or Corona Beach House.
