United Airlines is making a comeback by expanding its services at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The airline will introduce new nonstop routes with new flight schedules in Cleveland, this will help the local travelers a lot since they will now get to travel directly from one destination to the other. And all of this is happening after a decade after United Airlines closed its hub in the Ohio city. Let's look at a few key points of this comeback.
The newly launched year-round nonstop flights will be between Cleveland and Las Vegas on September 24, 2026.
The service will operate five days a week.
New seasonal nonstop flights between Cleveland and Miami are also being introduced on the 3rd of December. This route will start to operate on 5th April, 2027.
This newly initiated plan will show United Airlines expanding its roots into Cleveland. In 2014, United slowly stopped operating the airlines and shut down the hub.
United Airlines Expands Beyond Its Former Cleveland Hub
Years ago, Cleveland was considered to be an important connecting hub for United Airlines. According to the official reports, the carrier operated more than 60,000 flights from the airport, resulting in over 160 departures a day.
Unfortunately, United Airlines closed its hub in 2014, due to which the flight schedule slowly lessened. And by 2025, United was only operating 30 departures each day from Cleveland.
The latest launch of new nonstop routes does not mean that United is planning to reopen its hub in Cleveland again. Instead, the airline just wants to help the travelers to start with their journeys in Northeast Ohio.
New Routes Connect Cleveland to Popular Destinations
Now, Cleveland passengers can commute directly to Las Vegas, another option for the travelers to visit famous destinations. This service is already underway, giving United competition from Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines on the same route.
The latest Miami route will bring exciting changes for the travelers since they would be able to commute easily.
Meanwhile, the upcoming Miami route will improve direct access to South Florida. Miami is a popular destination for vacationers and cruise passengers, making the seasonal service a useful addition for travelers planning winter getaways.
What United’s Expansion Means for Cleveland Travelers
This new strategy by United Airlines reflected a different approach, that United did not open its large hub, which was once there in Cleveland. Instead, the airlines have launched new routes to help the local travelers commute easily.
Attracting the local travelers will increase the demand locally.
The passengers will have more nonstop route choices.
Due to this, United will be able to make its presence in the Cleveland market.
This shows that United might not be bringing up its former hub, but Cleveland is still an important part of its domestic hub. Slowly and gradually, United is coming back to its position with new nonstop routes to popular destinations.
