United Airlines Secures 5 New Gates as Salt Lake City Airport

United Airlines Secures 5 New Gates as Salt Lake City Airport Completes $5.1 Billion Rebuild

Recently, there have been reports that Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) in Utah has finally completed its 12-year redevelopment project. The whole project cost over $5 billion. This enormous transformation was started in the year 2014 in the month of July, and it will end with the opening of the final and last section, Concourse B East. However, through this transformation, United Airlines will be benefitted the most since it will be receiving 5 new gates out of the seven, whereas Delta Air Lines, which is the leading carrier, will be receiving the remaining gates.

Almost 25,000 craftworkers have worked hard on this project, day and night, making it up to 18 million hours. This construction phase was completed in different parts to bring out the airport’s new services to its passengers.

United Airlines Gets Most of the New Gates

During this project, seven gates will be added to Salt Lake City International Airport, where United Airlines will be getting five new gates, and the remaining will be given to different airlines.

United Airlines is being given the power because Delta Airlines already has a strong presence, and this will make United a strong competitor at the airport.

New Dining Options for Travelers

At Concourse B East, which is the final section, there will be an addition of approximately 132,000 square feet of space, and it will have six food and beverage outlets, which will include places like

  • Einstein Bros. Bagels

  • Monarca

  • Swig

These newly added places will give a variety of options to the passengers to dine in before boarding the flight.

A 12-Year Project Comes to an End

The completion of this project ended with a celebration on Saturday, October 24, 2026, followed by the theme “Gateway to the World."

The event had a suspended art installation, which was made from 2,500 colorful, laser-cut acrylic airplanes, where 37 singers and 21 musicians performed, and at the end there was a small presentation given by the airport documentary produced by Avalanche Studios.

The whole celebration was to give respect and thank all the labors who help in the completion of the project.

What’s Next for Salt Lake City International Airport?

With the completion of this new project, Salt Lake City International Airport can completely concentrate on serving the passengers with new facilities. With United Airlines being given new gates, it also adds a different milestone where there will be a bit of a competition between Delta and United to see who will hold a strong place at the SLC airport.

This redevelopment brings and end an important construction chapter, and now the airport will completely focus on the next phase of operations.
