Before starting packing for your trip, it is important to understand the baggage policy of the airlines, especially the baggage fees. The baggage fees may cost for your carry-on or check baggage or any other specific item. If you are traveling with Allegiant Airlines, it is most important to understand Allegiant Air Baggage policy.

Allegiant Baggage Policy

Allegiant Air Baggage Policy states that all passengers can carry their 1 personal item and need to pay for the carry-on baggage or checked baggage.

Allegiant baggage policy states that:

  1. Each passenger is allowed to carry 1 Personal Item.
  2. 1 Carry-on and up to 5 checked bags must be purchased.
  3. Sports and Musical instruments are also allowed but at some cost.

Personal Item: (7in x 15in x 16in)/ (17.8cm x 38.1cm x 40.6cm)
Carry-On Baggage: (9in x 14in x 22in)/ (22.9cm x 35.6cm x 55.9cm)
Checked Baggage: Max Size 80 linear inches/203cm (Height + Width + Length) & Max Weight 40lbs/18kg per bag

Carry-on Baggage Allowance

Allegiant Baggage Rules for Carry-Ons allow all passengers to carry 1 personal item free of cost including a briefcase, a purse, or a small backpack. The passenger must ensure that the personal item must fit under the seat of the passenger.
After the personal item, Allegiant baggage policy also allows 1 carry-on bag bearing some fee, paid at the time of booking or at the airport. The carry-on bags include a garment bag, roll-abroad, etc. that fits inside the overhead bin.

Carry-on Baggage Size

One Personal Item (Free)

Maximum Size: 17.8 x 38.1 x 40.6 (cm) & 7 x 15 x 16 (inches)
Example: a briefcase, a small backpack, or purse

One Carry-on Bag (Paid)

Maximum Size: 22.9 x 35.6 x 55.9 (cm) & 9 x 14 x 22 (inches)
Example: A garment bag, tote bag, or roll-aboard

Checked Baggage Allowance

Per Allegiant Checked Baggage Policy, a passenger is allowed to carry up to 5 checked bags for a fee (purchase 4 bags online and 1 at the airport) subject to weight and size for checked baggage.

Allegiant Checked Baggage Size: 203cm/80 linear inches (Length + Width + Height) including handles, pockets, and wheels
Allegiant Checked Baggage Weight:50lbs/23kg per bag

Important to note: Passengers must check their bags at least 45 minutes to 1 hour before flight departure time.

Excess Allegiant Baggage Size

Per Allegiant Air’s policy for Excess Baggage, all passengers must pay a fee for overweight and oversized bags. Here are the size categories for overweight and oversized bags:

Overweight checked bags

Bags weighing more than 40lb/18.6kg are comes under oversized bags. This is further classified into two categories such as 41-70lb and 71-99lb.

Oversized checked bags

Bags with combined dimensions exceeding 80in/203.2cm are considered oversized bags including wheels, handles, pockets, and other decorations.

It is noted that bags exceeding 115in/292.1cm in combined linear dimensions or 100lb/45.4 kg in weight will not be accepted.

How to avoid paying Allegiant Baggage fees?

You can follow the tips here to avoid paying Allegiant luggage fees:

Only bring a personal item: Passengers traveling with Allegiant are permitted to bring one free small personal item, such as a purse, laptop bag, or small backpack. To avoid any problems, make sure your item fits Allegiant's size specifications.

Pack light: Pack lightly to avoid paying for a carry-on or checked luggage if you can fit everything you need in your item. To reduce your luggage, prepare your outfits in advance and pack only what is necessary.

Pay for your baggage in advance: Allegiant gives you the choice to do so while making an online reservation. In general, paying in advance is less expensive than paying at the airport. Using this option will allow you to bring more luggage.

Consider bundling: Allegiant has bundled packages that include luggage charges. It may be more economical to buy a bundle rather than paying for each bag individually if you expect to need to bring more bags or larger things.

Join Allegiant's loyalty program: The Allegiant loyalty program, known as myAllegiant Rewards, is open to you. You can accrue points through the program to use towards travel expenses like hotels and rental cars. You may qualify for savings or waived baggage costs based on your membership status.

Use a credit card with baggage benefits: Some credit cards come with travel incentives, such as waived baggage costs. Exceptions to Allegiant Air Baggage Policy

Asides from Carry-ons and checked baggage, allegiant air has also allowed some moveable elements including wheelchairs and much more free of cost. Passengers are allowed to bring a child safety seat and a stroller free of charge. After checking the item, the passenger can collect it at the gate side of the destination airport.

Allegiant Air Sports Equipment Baggage Policy

Allegiant air baggage policy for sports equipment counts each piece as a checked bag and there is a baggage fee for sports equipment applied per person and bag. As it is considered checked baggage, it has the same maximum weight and size limitations i.e.

Max. size: 80 inches/203 cm, and
Max. weight: 40 lbs/ 203 cm.

Each person is allowed to carry 5 checked bags with not more than 100lb/45.4kg.

Sports Equipment allowed at Allegiant Air

Golf Equipment: Golf clubs and a golf bag are normally allowed as checked baggage. They may, however, be subject to overweight and oversize costs if they exceed the airline's set restrictions. If you exceed the baggage allowance, you may be charged additional fees.

Bicycles: Allegiant Air typically allows bicycles as checked luggage. They must, however, be properly packed in a bike box or case to safeguard them during transport. Bicycles are often subject to fees and size and weight limits when transported.

Skis and snowboards: Skis and snowboards are normally permitted as checked luggage. However, they must be appropriately packed in a ski or snowboard backpack or case.

Fishing Equipment: Fishing rods and tackle boxes are usually allowed as checked luggage.

Allegiant Airlines Musical Instruments Policy

Allegiant Air has a different baggage policy for Musical Instruments. Per the policy, musical instruments can be carried in 4 ways.

  1. As your free personal item.
  2. As paid carry-on baggage with maximum dimensions of 9x14x22 inches.
  3. As paid checked baggage item with maximum linear dimensions of 115 inches/292.1 cm.
  4. As a paid seat baggage item. You can purchase a seat for your properly packed musical instrument.

Musical Instruments and other equipment for seat baggage include cellos, bass, violas, guitars, computer, electronic, and video equipment parts.

Allegiant Airlines Military Baggage Policy

Allegiant does provide significant benefits to US Military members that make flying easier while spending less money. These services include for:

  1. U.S. Army
  2. Marine Corps
  3. Navy
  4. Air Force
  5. Coast Guard
  6. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps
  7. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Officer Corps.

Carry-on Baggage: Free 1 personal item and 1 carry-on bag with standard size limits.
Checked Baggage: Free 2 checked baggage with a maximum weight and size of 100lb/45.4kg and 115 linear inches respectively.

CPAP and other medical equipment

Allegiant Air has a specific policy for passengers traveling with CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) devices and other medical equipment. CPAP machines and other respiratory-related medical devices are acceptable carry-on items and do not count under your personal item or carry-on luggage allowance. If you need to travel with a CPAP machine or other medical equipment, you must notify Allegiant Air at least 48 hours before your flight to provide them with the necessary details.
The CPAP machine or other medical equipment must be kept safely in a carrying case or bag that meets the airline's carry-on baggage size requirements. It should fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. Other than CPAP, other medical equipment includes ventilators, oxygen concentrators, and nebulizers.

Note: Liquid or compressed oxygen is not permitted in the cabin or cargo.

What to do if your baggage is missing or damaged?

Per Allegiant Missing Baggage Policy, If your baggage is lost or damaged at the airport, you can report it to the Allegiant Baggage Service office at the airport but no later than 4 hours.
In case, you couldn’t report at the airport you can Mail Allegiant and notify them about the issue.
If you lost your luggage on the flight, you can report it through the Lost Found request form.

Banned and Restricted Items at Allegiant

Explosives and Flammable Materials:

Liquids, Gels, and Aerosols (in carry-on baggage):

These must adhere to the 3-1-1 rule:

  1. Containers must be 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less.
  2. All containers must be placed in a clear, quart-sized plastic bag.
  3. Each passenger is usually limited to one quart-sized bag.

Sharp Objects:

  1. Knives (except for plastic or round-bladed butter knives)

Can I carry free checked baggage ?

As per Allegiant Baggage policy, a passenger can carry up to 5 checked bags on a flight. Each person can have up to 4 checked bags bearing some cost. There is also an additional cost for sports equipment, overweight or oversized baggage.
